Ardunio uno Genuine Bricked after Pot short?


I got a genuine Ardunio uno that i may have bricked when a pot got shorted.

Changed USB port no change.

First the L was solid on bootup and did not blink when reset.
Loopback test failed.

Changed the Large chip and the L led responds as normal but i still cant upload, Loopback test still fails but it fails on another working clone board so not sure what the issue is.

avrdude: stk500_getsync() attempt 1 of 10: not in sync: resp=0x0b
avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding

Any ideas?

The loopback test does not involve the 328P microcontroller; that’s why you connect the reset pin to ground. If a loopback test fails, it means that the USB-to-TTL chip (in an genuine Uno it’s the 16U2) is no longer working.

To test, you can remove the 328P (the large chip as you called it) and run the loopback test again.

Try reflashing the atmega16u2 using the working Arduino as isp and connecting it to the icsp header found near the usb port. This may help to make the atmega16u2 work again
