Me and my team are currently working on a project (land drone or UGV), that goes inside buildings and can roam the streets. We need a GPS module to keep track of it and maybe also to make a return to home feature when the battery is low.
I've considered getting the GPS Ultimate Breakout by Adafruit but it is expensive. I'm also considering on getting the GPS NEO6MV2 flight control module:
Does going cheaper bring be harm or good in this project.
The instances that our drone will use GPS is that when we are locating it and when using the return to home feature. Thanks!
Why not buy the cheap one and try it out in the locations where your going to use it for yourself, practical experiements can tell you a lot about how stuff works (or does not)
Depends on the structure - my very old Garmain GPS and my phone work fine in my condo but don't work in the parking garage (basement) - also not the multi-path problems GPS units have in a city with tall buildings, many applications will "correct" the position to keep the car on a street!
I have also observed errors on my phone GPS position up to 200 ft when under some metal overhangs
