ATMEGA 2560 - connected in Ard. Web Editor - cannot be added in Ard. Dev Manag.

Hello,

I am working on Arch. Linux

I have the Arduino Create agent running.
I can use the Arduino Web Editor here :frowning:Arduino Cloud)
to upload and modify sketches on an Atmega 2560 board.

but when I try to add the board on the Arduino Device Manager here :frowning:Arduino Manager for Linux)
I have the message :
We could not find any board.

Is the ATMEGA 2560 board compatible with Arduino Device Manager ?

If so any idea why the Web Editor recognize the board and not the Device Manager.

regards.

No. You can see the boards supported by Arduino Device Manager here:

Because Device Manager is for adding boards to use with Arduino IoT Cloud. Arduino IoT Cloud requires the board to have both network connectivity and encryption capability, neither of which your Mega 2560 has.

I forgot to mention,
that this very ATMEGA board has networking capabilities,
since it has an Ethernet shield attached to it.

Thanks for your answer.

I'll try to get my hands on one of the more official boards.

There are tentative plans to eventually open Arduino IoT Cloud up to boards like your Mega 2560:

The current focus is on providing secure communication, which is not possible using the Mega 2560 and Ethernet Shield alone.

If you use a board like the Nano 33 IoT or MKR WiFi 1010, it's very easy to get started with Arduino IoT Cloud.

But if you only want to use Arduino Web Editor, your Mega 2560 will work fine. It's only for Arduino IoT Cloud that you need to use Device Manager.

Thanks for the heads up.
