Atmega328P AU error uploading bootloader

Hi

I got an error uploading the bootloader. I've checked my connections but can not see anything. Using Minicore to upload 328P external 8MHz

Arduino: 1.8.8 (Windows 10), Board: "ATmega328, Yes (UART0), 328P / 328PA, BOD 1.8V, LTO disabled, 8 MHz external"

avrdude done.  Thank you.

Error while burning bootloader.

If is it brand new ATmega and chinese USBasp it could work with slow SCK. There should be a jumper or pads for jumper on USBasp. Depends on type it is marked JP2 or JP3.

Yes, a new chip from RS and a USBasp from China. I tried the link but it didnt make a difference.

Usual problem is that raw chip is clocked to 1MHz and USBasp cannot handle it. Look at the schematics:

It is JP1, must be closed but as I wrote above chinese clones have different mark from type to type. However, it is always Atmega's pin 25 to GND. Post the link of your USBasp or its photo.

Another solution is FW upgrade on the USBasp but it is not the option now, because you will need another programmer.

Not had chance to look at the project this weekend. I’ve actually gotten a backup USBasp, so will try that. Cheers
