Atmega8 Bootloader?

I have 2 spare Atmega8 chips. Is it possible to burn the arduino bootloader on them?
Do I just have to replace the 328 with the 8 on the board and click burn bootloader?
or is there a more complicated method?

Yes, select "Atmega NG with Atmega8" as the board type.

You need a Programmer to bootload them, it connects to the SPI pins to control the flash memory and fuses.

An Arduino can be loaded with a Bootloader installation sketch.

The "NG or older" bootloader is really outdated. It's big, and slow to start. You should give MiniCore a try, which gives you several other options too, like internal oscillator and LTO
