This is probably an embarrassingly beyond basic question, but here I go anyways: I've never used a shield before...I am creating a puzzle which involves attaching a MIDI shield to a Mega2560 and am adding a relay/maglock and small speaker following the attached diagram (yes, I know the diagram is an Uno, but all I have is a Mega at the moment). But HOW, PHYSICALLY, do I attach the shield AND wire the relay into the 5v pin which the MIDI shield is already in?
Your shield has Male headers. You need a two-way header. So that you can connect cables above.

Just solder the cables to the MIDI shield. Read the schematics, you can find most of the D and A pins in the perfboard section of the shield.
