Are these chips at all compatible with each other hardware wise, but more importantly, is it the same language to program them? I switched from Stamp with its easy VB to the Arduino with is more difficult C and don't want to add yet a 3rd language to have to remember. Can anyone help with explaining more about how the 2 chips are the same or differ? Thanks.

ATtiny2313... two timers instead of three, no analog-to-digitial converter instead of an ADC with multiple channels, MUCH less memory.

You can use the Arduino IDE to build programs for the ATtiny2313. You will need an ICSP (piece of hardware) and a "core" (set of source code). I believe bohne (René Bohne) is the only person to have published a core for the 2313... http://www.luminet.cc/

This company makes some cool things for Halloween and other kinds of applications:
I wanted to be able to user their "cylon" / "knight rider" led drivers based on the Atiny2313. If they are the same family of chip and use the exact same language, then I could use the stuff from the Arduino to program both without having to learn much else. I could repurpose the LED scanners to do other patterns if I wanted.
Do you have an ICSP? Do you know what one is?
