ATTinyCore

Hi, since a few days when starting the arduino IDE (1.8.9) i get the following message: "Fehler beim Herunterladen von http://drazzy.com/package_drazzy.com_index.json" and the boardmanager donot show the "ATtinyCore by Spence Konde". Has anyone an idea ? regards Helmut

  • After you get that error, click the “Close” button in the Boards Manager window.
  • Click on the black console window at the bottom of the Arduino IDE window.
  • Press “Ctrl + A”. This will select all the text in the console window.
  • Press “Ctrl + C”. This will copy the selected text to the clipboard.
  • In a reply here, click the </> button on the forum toolbar. This will insert code tags into the reply field.
  • Press “Ctrl + V”. This will paste the copied text from the clipboard between the code tags.
  • Click “Post”.

Hi pert,

now I switched the language of my IDE from german to english. As you requested I copied the errormessage and pasted it as follows

Error downloading http://drazzy.com/package_drazzy.com_index.json

I hope this is it what you mean helmut

OK, I was hoping it would have some more detailed error output that would help with the troubleshooting.

Are you able to open the URL in your browser: http://drazzy.com/package_drazzy.com_index.json

Hi,

yes i can open it with my browser, here you can see the beginning

"packages": [ { "name": "ATTinyCore", "maintainer": "Spence Konde", "websiteURL": "https://github.com/SpenceKonde/ATTinyCore", "email": "", "help": { "online": "" }, "platforms": [ . . . an so on

So there is some problem specific to the Arduino IDE downloading that file. The strange thing is that Boards Manager first downloads https://downloads.arduino.cc/packages/package_index.json and you're not getting an error message about that URL, so the IDE is able to connect to the Internet and download things, but there is something specific about http://drazzy.com/package_drazzy.com_index.json.

Try this:

  • (In the Arduino IDE) File > Preferences
  • Click the link at the line following "More preferences can be edited directly in the file". This will open the Arduino15 (or similar name depending on OS) folder.
  • Delete all files in that folder except for preferences.txt. Please be very careful when deleting things on your computer. When in doubt, back up!
  • (In the Arduino IDE) Close the Boards Manager window if it's open.
  • Tools > Board > Boards Manager
  • Wait for the downloads to finish.

Does the error still occur?

This has come up a couple of times in recent months. A fix of sorts is to duplicate the URL in the URL's list

eg. "http://drazzy.com/package_drazzy.com_index.json,http://drazzy.com/package_drazzy.com_index.json"

Not sure if the original site host changed in any way or if it is an IDE issue ?

Bob.

Hi and Good morning,

@ pert: your solution was successful, the errormessage doesn't occur. In the boardmanager I can see now the "ATtinyCore by SpenceKonde", it is "Installed" and in the IDE I can see all the ATtiny-boards.

@ Bob: I didn't try your solution because: see above

Many thanks to you both for your help and best regards

Helmut

You're welcome. I'm glad to hear it's working now. Enjoy! Per
