You are better off just using a power amplifier since you would need one anyway for an arduino to drive speakers bigger than the ones that are already in your TV.

Well with the proper circuitry and programming you could use an Arduino to CONTROL audio volume, speaker switching, mute, remote control, etc. However the critical part of. to amplify the sound, can only be done with an audio amplifier which the Arduino is not capable of doing to any resonable degree.

There is a way to do this - digitize the sound, multiply it up some, send it back out via an external D/A converter, then ... amplify it.. oh, wait that doesn't work ...
