TomGeorge:
Hi,
What level of licence do you have.Tom...
Currently I am only a foundation license holder and technically I'm in a grey area with my work in that my class of license holder shouldn't really be tinkering around building and testing transmitters.
I had to give up the progression of my license due to a disagreement with the club I was a member of and there's nowhere else local to me to study and sit my exams so I indulge my hobby in relative solitude. Well having said that, I do have one or two full license holder friends I can call on for advice or assistance now and again but even they get baffled some times lol.
My level of knowledge is probably around the Intermediate bordering on to advanced but I'm certainly no expert. Just a humble Amateur. I did a mock Intermediate exam paper online earlier in the year and would have passed had it been a real exam.
To be honest, I don't actually have many QSOs - I'm mainly interested in the digital / data stuff and doing R and D, tinkering around, decoding satellites etc. and my current level of license allows me access to the bands. I used to be quite big into SSTV and RTTY and stuff like that.
I used to have access to HF but then I couldn't find the time to use the gear and it sat gathering dust so I sold it to a friend who would make better use of it. My equipment now is all UHF/VHF stuff. Mostly used for testing and experimenting with.
Maybe one day I'll get round to finishing off the progression of my license but for now I'm happy as I am.
Regards and 73s!
