Is there such a thing as an audio resistor that works like the photo resistor?

Well the closest thing I believe you will find to a 'audio resistor' is a microphone. It changes it's electrical output properties proportionally to the audio energy it is sensing.

A carbon microphone is exactly an audio resistor. The resistance changes in response to sound waves. They used to be in old fashion telephones.
