Authenticator not poorted to new phone

Hi,
Last autumn I disposed of my old iphone (7years) and bought a new one. When I migrated data, though, I did noot have authenticator on the old phone (I had to save space and, using it sparingly, it got automatically deleted from the phone.
Long story short, now I have to use the recovery code each time I have to logon to the forum, not having access to the authenticator anymore.
Is there a more efficient way?

Thanks

I never userd 2FA here (I don't think it's really needed for a site like this and/or a forum, a complex password is enough), but I think that's not really a problem specific for this website, but, generally speaking, is due to the authenticators mechanism principle.
Authenticators always locally store the unique authentication key associated to each service you need to get access to, and calculates the pseudo-random OTP code based on the key and the local clock. Thus, changing the phone you loose your accounts so the only solution is to obtain a new authentication key for the two factors authentication.
As I said, I never userd 2FA here but to do that I think you could try doing standard login using your credentials/recovery, then go to your "Profile" and check what the "Security" box contains: if it allows you to reset the 2FA key and create a new one, you have solved.

PS: Google Authenticator lets you to optionally save the keys on the cloud (in encrypted form) so in case of a phone change or format you can recover them: but if you keep using that Apple things...

thanks, but it seems there's no option to disassociate the key or even associate a new one. I really hoped there were some known procedures to do this but I'm probably too dumb to find them out. I'll keep trying. thanks

I don't know the current Authenticator implementation here, but I'm not suprised: normally there is never a way to self-reset an Authenticator code, for obvious security reasons, it's an action to be performed by admins, on user request.

@UKHeliBob can you do anything for our friend, or at least advise him on what to do?
