Automated Bar Build Thread

Hey guys - making an automated bar that can be built for $250ish thats fully working. I know many have tread before me, but wanted to document every step of the walk through and make something thats both functional, and presentable permanently in your house.

Wanted to start a build thread here but basically looking at a list of parts that includes:

  • Laser Cut Frame
  • 2 Stepper Motors
  • Guide Rails for linear motion in the x/y direction
  • Wifi Chip/Shield (ESP266)
  • 3d printer holders
  • A dispenser rack
  • Cable holder/ties
  • An LCD screen
  • Limit switches, IR sensors, and hall effect sensors.

The goal is to have an easy list of parts, code, and CAD that anyone can make a kick-ass bar with. I've called the bar "Sir Mix a Bot" and here's a sneak preview of the frame post-laser cuts.

I've made one out of birch and one from MDF. Both turned out looking really nice (you can see the slot cutout for the LCD screen). The whole frame snaps together and self aligns nuts and bolts.

Thanks -

  • Chris

Here's another update on the frame laser cuts and associated components needed to make, and associated code:

Where are you going to put the 3D printers?

I'm also making the same project.. (although not house in a wood enclosure)..

What linear rails did you end up going with? (link?)

Make it unique, use a model railway.
