Hi!
I want to control two 12V DC high current relays. The relays should be switch on and off regarding to the time of the day and an IR-counter. Could you please point me in the right direction regarding hardware and code?

Further I want to log time and IR-count data, and send alarm messages by GSM. I also need to charge the battery by solar power.

Could you recommend any similar projects, threads or good books/articles? I’m totally new to Arduino so please be gentle. I’ve ordered a “Starter Kit flex for Arduino SparkFun” just to get me started.

I recommend Google. The majority of the features you mention are quite common and you shouldn't have any trouble finding existing tutorials and past projects that cover them.

PeterH is dead on in his recommendation:

Adafruit has a good selection of stuff, too, relay shields, etc.

It really comes down to your geographical location and what is easily available by post.
