AVR ATMEGA16A

Hi! It's been 2 months since I bought my arduino and now I want to make my first project. Today I bought an AVR Atmega16a, and all I want to know is if it possible to upload the arduino's code to it. Should I buy other atmel microcontroller? Thanks!

Since a great deal of the Arduino environment and sample code is devoted to the ATMega328P... Why the choice of the ATMega16?

Google for “atmega16a arduino core” maybe there are some cores.

And yes, you should buy other microcontrollers. Atmega16A has 40 pins but only 16k flash and 1kb sram :(. What is good 40 pin for if you got little space for memory.

Atmega1284P has 128k flash and 16 kb sram (quite a beast) and is the same physical size of Atmega16A (a 40 pin chip too).
But is more expensive too…
