Hi, quick solution: http://arduino.cc/forum/index.php/topic,118440.0.html
Thanks for the input but when I tried that I still get the same message. BTW, I'm using VIsta on the problematic PC, I have no trouble at all on either my XP laptop or my Windows 7 laptop. Very strange. I've also tried giving all Arduino programs administrator clearance, still no luck.
I suggest you enter create process: no such file or directory into the forum search box. It's a recurring problem and (it seems) has already been solved.
I'm sorry I can't be more specific 'cause I run linux
Just want to piggy back onto this topic. I am having the same issue with a Win 7 Pro Serv. pack 1 machine. I have read the forums and have used the recommended search term to identify other solutions and none are working. (and before it gets suggested, yes Eried I have downloaded your software and have gotten the same error, no pepsi for you ... yet)
I think that if I had a better idea of what the software was looking for in terms of structure and paths, it might make more sense to me. I do not see a real installer here, just decompressing an existing structure. Is that the case? If so, I would assume that I should be able to place the root directory for the Arduino software in any location and all of the paths for the compiler would be relative to that location. Having said that, when I installed the software I ran the executable as part of the download and let windows place it into whatever directory it indicated (seven directory levels deep) I then attempted to follow the rest of the instructions, found COM3 as the Uno and updated the driver successfully, then I loaded the "blink" sketch and tried the "Verify" command. I got the same error as everyone else. I then looked for an option in the software to set a path to the location of the compiler (no options that I could see either inside the software or in any of the options files) So now I am flummoxed. Am I missing something on this install, or is there some step that I am overlooking.
My guess is that the others in the forum who go away are not disappearing because they solved the problem, instead they are saying "screw this, it is only a $20 board and I do not need this aggravation". Perhaps I am wrong, but that is the impression that I get. So, how does this thing actually work? How are the compiler options set and where is it getting the path information? and more importantly, how do I set them to the correct locations?
As an aside, why is this installation not directed to a specific location or why not include a location in the installation instructions. I know that my preference is to install to a different drive on any windows machine and to set the application directory one level deep on that drive. This keeps all the application data away from the windows install in case it needs to be reloaded. There was nothing in the installation instructions to provide any clarity on this and thus I tried to act responsibly and let the software determine its own location.
Thanks for any help you might offer.
Where did you extract the zip file ? I mean: where are the extracted files ?
Thanks for the quick response.
The files are in c:\users(my user name with no parens.)\documents\arduino-1.0.3-windows\arduino-1.0.3
Thanks.
I suspected the problem could be the whole thing was in some temp files down n-level deep hierarchy.
But in the location you mentioned there should be no problems...
And yet here we are.
Is it correct that, in theory, I should be able to place the Arduino software anywhere so long as I maintain the relative paths under the executable? and.. there is no way to set those paths in a settings or default file?
I need to check a Windows machine doing that to be sure, "CreateProcess" seems like a system problem
Tried the install on a different machine with similar hardware and it worked. Now I am confused as they are both Dell machines purchased under contract at the same time. (So the hardware should be similar if not identical) The operating system was loaded from the same dvd and the same options were used on both.
Any thoughts... or should I just chalk it up to the computer gods not being in a giving mood that day?
Thanks all for your suggestions and follow up, especially Eried who diligently tried to help out.
Thanks again.
