avrdude: Programmer is not responding

Hello, I keep trying to upload my program to my Arduino UNO board but I get the following message:

avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding.

I've uploaded programs to the board before then suddenly this started happening. My operating system is OS X 10.7.3. When I try verbose output I get the message avrdude: usbdev_open(): did not find any USB device "usb".

Any ideas on how I can get this to work?

I was receiving the same error with my Duemilanove ATMEGA328 on OSX. The problem was resolved by updating my FTDI drivers from here: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
