avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00 - sparkfun breakoutboard.

Hi everyone,

Not sure where I ask this question, but here goes. I have an arduino uno and I run the program Blink without any issues.

I setup the Standalone Arduino Circuit ( http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Standalone ) using an ATmega328 with Arduino Optiboot (Uno) and the Sparkfun USB to Serial breakoutboard. I've installed the virtual com drivers for the FT chip, select the Arduino Uno board in Arduino 1.05-r2 software, using the appropriate com port. I receive the error avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00

I checked out the forum for similar issues and there was one suggestion of changing the board.

My circuit is solid and I suspect it's a software issue. I don't know what to do next, please help :(

Try a different USB cable? How is the serial breakout board wired?

Exactly as shown in this setup: http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Standalone

I'm fumbling around with a few different fixes....seems to be a common problem. Throwing a 0.1 uF cap on the reset pin seems to allow for proper boot up. But I still cant program

Here is the exact setup:

After adding a 0.1uF cap from Atmega328p RST to Sparkfun DTR, the LED on pin 13 blinks as it should with bootup. But still no programming success

The cap fixed the problem. What an archaic solution. Found the solution in the comments on Sparkfun
