I'm sorry, I wanted to add my solution to the [READ ONLY (for this error/avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00)]; but one can't, so here is my response for people with this error:
I just had the same problem as many people with this error; and I came to this forum, tried all suggestions, shi of the serial program interface suggestion. But my problem persisted so I was able to remove the Arduino chip and inserted a new chip that I have here from a small Arduino kit and now all is OK.
I assume the problem was that I burned/damaged the chip because I used LED's and did not use the resistor 100-Ohms or larger, to prevent this from happening.
(For the people who are maintaining this wonderful website, please enable the site to edit or add solutions to the error: "avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00" forum, so anyone can easily find the correct forum to post their solution, like in my case.
