I have same problem with arduino IDE - Windows 7. I've tried many tutorials but nothing works at all. =( =(
I then tried it on linux (Ubuntu). and the results, upload program successfully without any problems.. 
bootloader ?
Compare the two "boards.txt" files.
I've seen that changes "arduino"<->"stk500" can make a differece..
