Avrdude timeout error on a nano

My Nano is running a preinstalled blink sketch out of the package and the RX LED blinks when it attempts to get a sync, so I am sure the board itself is fine.
I have done a loopback test but this doesn't work? So that is leading me to think it is one of these

  • The host computer
  • Hardware driver
  • USB cable
  • The board's USB to Serial converter

my error message looks like

Arduino: 1.8.13 (Mac OS X), Board: "Arduino Nano Every, ATMEGA328"

Global variables use 22 bytes (0%) of dynamic memory, leaving 6122 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 6144 bytes.

avrdude done. Thank you.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated

As seems to be the way I had another play with my settings and changed the board from Nano every to Nano and the processor to the old bootloader and everything works! sigh

I had also updated the FDTI driver but not sure if that helped or if it was just my scattered brain

Just your scattered brain

A Nano Every is not a classic Nano so no surprises there.
