It used to tell me a file was missing at 'main' however trying to search for that file yielded no results. Company computer no fresh install possible. Doesn't matter what program, same exact code will work on computer right next to me.
Your post does not quite make sense.
- Do you have a problem with main.cpp or with avrdude?
- Which operating system?
- Which board?
No surprise that you get the error about main missing 
On Windows, it should be located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Arduino\hardware\arduino\avr\cores\main.cpp
I would ask the IT department to install if needed. You can do a zip install; that should not require admin privileges (except for possibly drivers).
