avrdude: verification error on new Arduino Uno board

I am a new Arduino user and cannot upload sketches to my new Arduino Uno. I have tried the solutions listed on the forum (except for re-flashing the boot loader) and none have worked . The Arduino is listed under "port /dev/cu/usbmodem411 (Arduino/Genuino Port)". When I press the reset button, the LED on port 13 flashes. I have installed the IDE on two laptops and I get the same error. I cannot figure out why I am getting this avrdude error because my MacBook air seems to be connecting to the Arduino Uno. Here are the details of my system:

Operating system: macOS Sierra Version 10.12.2 running on a MacBook Air
Board: Arduino Uno
Whether or not you were ever able to upload to the board: Initially, I was able to change the delay on the Blink program and the Arduino responded. I then wrote the code for the Spaceship Interface (project 2 in the book), but it would not upload and I received the avrdude error. I did not make any changes to my computer in between modifying the blink code and uploading the Spaceship Interface code.
Here is the verbose output:

Hi all
I have the same problem with my NIBO2 board. However I was up to now never able to upload a program. Only erase is working. My chip now is empty!!
I am working with a Linux version, but the same problem exists with a Win 7 Version.
Here is the aoutpu from Arduno:

Arduino: 1.6.13 (Linux), Board: "nicai-systems NIBO 2 robot"

Bootloader file specified but missing: /home/kurt/Documents/AVRpgm/hardware/nicai/avr/bootloaders/DoNotEraseTheBootloader

Sketch uses 5,254 bytes (4%) of program storage space. Maximum is 131,072 bytes.
Global variables use 901 bytes of dynamic memory.
