avrisp (serial version V2.10 firmware)

How dod I tell the Arduino IDE which com port the avrisp uses? When I select avrisp, avrdude can't find the port.

For "AVR ISP" (protocol STK500 V1) it uses the serial port selected under Tools:Serial Port.

For "AVRISP mkII" (protocol STK500 V2) it expects a USB device.

If you have a serial AVR ISP but it uses V2 of the STK500 protocol you will need to add an entry to "programmers.txt" for it.

Examples from "programmers.txt":

avrisp.name=AVR ISP avrisp.communication=serial avrisp.protocol=stk500v1

avrispmkii.name=AVRISP mkII avrispmkii.communication=usb avrispmkii.protocol=stk500v2

Thanks, I was able to modify programmers.txt and add the V2 firmware and it worked. Caused me a problem when I went back to the usb connection, as it looks like the serial port setting is for both the usb connection for the Arduino as well as the serial avrisp. Original thats why I didn't think the serial port would have anything to do with the programmer.

Many Thanks for that. Over a year that I was trying to get the programmer to work without sucess!
