He's got a big brother too you'll see... which is even more impressive

Little Dog is brilliant! Is that your project? Great work.

These things make me feel weird. Can't they put a head on them? :o
I second the "weird"-ness: the little dog suggested a baby version of some Giger creation.
Otoh, the first part of the big dog video looked like a Monty Python skit where a mix-up puts the back ends of two costume horses together.
Of course, that's probably just a Freudian cover-up of the intense envy I feel of the skills of the people who did such an amazing job of hardware and software engineering...
I like that little dog thing.. guess it is just a matter of decades, or years till this form succeeds the "rover" robots on mars..
The big one.. whats that buzzing sound? I guessed at first it was some sort of Gyro stabilization, yet it was only hearable in the outside and not the lab.. any ideas?
I'm geussing thats a generator it is carrying to provide it its power.
I momentarily thought the guy was mean for kicking it. They must be doing something right.

It's got a honking great go-kart engine in it...

That solution was too simple ,0)
Honestly - watching it a second time now it makes sense, though i feel it is a bit high pitched ,0)

If you look around, there is a parody video floating out on youtube...
;D

You should check out Boston Dynamics website; they are working on a chem-weapon suit testing "android" (with presumably similar leg control as the Big Dog), as well as something they call the "squishbot":

Woah - just took a look myself, and they've updated their site - the android is called "petman" - and it does use the same kind of control (they have a video now!).
Amazing what can happen when you throw money (read: DARPA money) at things...

Yes, like the internet!
DARPA seems to be involved in everything. It looks like we found our Skynet.
Great info
I'm looking with two legs.

Looking at the video of the bigdog walking on ice, how much computing power do you think it needs in terms relative to a desktop pc to achieve that level of control?
Haha that's what I honestly thought first time I watched the real video
;D
