I was wondering if there was a sensor that would be able to detect bacteria in water even dead bacteria and it will be able to give the count. Another question I had was what chip what do you need to use to connect a bottle or something like a smart bottle to your phone on an app for iPhone and android.

What is a smart bottle?
You may be able to detect chemical changes from bacterial metabolism. I haven't had microbiology for 20 years though..
Maybe a electrochemical lactic acid sensor?
mattlogue: Maybe a electrochemical lactic acid sensor?
Never heard of such sensors. Link please?
This sort of thing requires a phase-contrast microscope, microfluidic and CV methods I think.
