bad upgrade to software 1.6.8? (avrdude: stk500..programmer is not responding)

I Upgraded to 1.6.8 (sorry do not remember what is was)

Using Win 7 Arduino Uno (IEIK) Was programming and working before upgrade But after upgrade I am getting

Tried (Look at forum and tried) Going back ver 1.6.7 (Same thing) Moving USB cable PC (Same thing) PC and software sees Move of Arduino Bd

Forum had me look for Tx/Rx leds (no indication led working )

Any other thoughts or do I need AVR USBASP Programmer do to a bad bootloader

1.6.8 has problems on Windows - though that doesn’t really look like the usual problem.

I can’t recommend any version later than 1.6.5r5 - the more recent versions have had new bugs, and in the case of 1.6.8, a very severe serial handling bug on windows.
