Badges: what are they?

for me karma was migrated as "Karma: 500+". Then I earned "Karma: 50+" and a few days ago "Karma 50+" was replaced by "Karma: 100+". I received 100 likes (hearts).

I can't find the post with post count ranges for the 'famous peoples' badges

Ok guys, I gave the categories a revamp and I came out with the following: Newbie: 0 Jr. Member: 50 Full Member: 100 Sr. Member: 250 God Member: 500 Edison Member: 1000 Faraday Member: 2500 Tesla Member: 6250 Shannon Member: 10000 Brattain Member: 15000 If there is anyone making it to transistor inventor level I will have to send that person flowers /d

They were revised when the forum software was migrated from SMF to Discourse last spring. We were promised a reveal of the new system "very soon" at that time:

@alto777, that is a good question. That mechanism is pretty useless for seasoned users hence the funny (or unamusing) effect of getting a new badge every day. They are actually designed for newcomers because they reinforce positive behavior and facilitate learning-by-doing. They usually help forum moderators in mitigating the inappropriate behavior from new users.
