Basic logic based pressure trigger

I have a fan by my bed hooked up to a remote control unit. The remote has an on and off button. I want to make some sort of circuit where if I press a button (lay down on my bed) it will trigger the on button of the remote, but just once for battery's sake, and then when I get up, it will trigger the off button on the remote, just once again. I would like to use some sort of basic digital logic rather than an AVR. How feasible is this?

Thanks! -Mac

So it's not an Arduino project, then? In that case this probably isn't an appropriate place to ask, but you should be able to achieve that using a switch and a couple of 555 timers to trigger a pulse each time the switch state changes.

If the fan is by your bed, wouldn't it be simpler to have the switch turn the fan on and get rid of the remote and triggering unit completely?

Yeah, I'm just used to this forum. I'll move it.

While the button would be easier, that's not the spirit of it!
