battery power with minis

Hi!

I am using the minis in autonomous objects, and want to use batteries to power them. At the moment lets imagine im using 3xAAs to give a 4.5V supply...

I am using the setup here (http://www.arduino.cc/en/Guide/ArduinoMini) using a standard Arduino to load code onto the mini. Once the code is loaded onto the mini, I am removing the serial and power cables from the breadboard, and then adding the power and ground cables from my battery into the respective rails on the breadboard. Is this the right way of supplying power to the mini - or should it be direct to the board? If I am doing things wrong can anyone suggest a better way?

Also the mini doesnt hold its code like it does on the standard board. On the standard Arduino you can remove power, come back a long time later and reapply power and the code runs - this doesnt happen on the minis the way I am doing things... am i doing things in the wrong order?

Thanks!

Hi

do you have a picture of how you've wired it?
