Battery powered Motion sensing LED light

I am working on a Door lamp project that illuminates when it senses motion. I was able to find off the box products but they only seem to work in the ambiance of pitch darkness.

This must be simple, but any small circuit layout or quick instructions would help as I dont have an electrical background. Would prefer to power it with batteries as I can wire it to power outlet.

I don't think you have been looking very hard, or maybe you have not explained your requirements very well. This is a classic Passive Infrared Sensor application and certainly does not require any custom electronics or programming.
