[BEGINNER] - Two LED strips with arduino

Hi guys,

Working on my first project and I'm quite lost, so some guidance is going be highly appreciated! :)

Is it possible to control and power two different led strips (WS2812B) with an Arduino Uno and a 5v power bank? And also assign them individual buttons to turn them on and off. And any hints where to find some tips for the coding.

These are my parts:

  • WS2812B 144 LEDs 1m - 5v (x2)
  • Push button 12mm - Reset - PBS-33B (x2)
  • Arduino Uno R3
  • 15000mAh Li-polymer Power Bank - 5V

Thank you very much in advance for the help!

Those LEDs are individually addressable. You would just want have one long string and if you want half of it on then you only tell that half of the leds to turn on.

What you're asking is like asking if there is some way to split your neighborhood post office into two different offices so you can send letters to two different people. The same post office could deliver both letters to the people they go to. Just like Arduino gets to control each individual led in the string.

Thanks for the quick response! I understand the point, but because of placement (and function), it would be very convenient to use two different strips, the idea is to do a suit with two separate ones under my arms. So it's better to join them as one big thing?

That's why I'm asking, also check if my power bank is good enough :)

Thanks again, will check that now. And no, it's my first attempt for a school assignment and the teacher it's not helpful at all with the coding part.

Okay, no problem, keep us informed, and post any code you are trying if you have problems. You best start is to get one strip working. if you google tutorial WS21812 That will give you some start points. Tom.. :)
