Screen is installed by default on NanoNote, and yes you can use whole screen and open several sessions instead of spliting like I did.
In fact is basically a GNU/Linux machine so once you are in shell it can do pretty the same as any other Linux 
Next steps I that are added to my long TODO list is porting the avr toolchain to be able to compile and upload programs directly form NanoNote, but be patience due it will take me some time to figure out how to do so..., if anyone have experience in crosscompiling , openWRT, avr toolchain, compilation without Arduino IDE or is just interested and want to help you can join us at http://en.qi-hardware.com/wiki/Main_Page community
