One of my first new year purchases is going to be a proper bench PSU. My requirements aren't too crazy. I'd like something I can control voltage with, 3V+ to 12V+ (maybe 24V+, but that's optional), as well as the ability to set current up to 5A (higher is always nice). Multiple outputs is nice, but not a requirement. I'd like to stay within $250 is possible. Knowing that there are a ton of options on the market, I'd like to open this up for suggestions: What do you use, what can you tell me about it? What do you recommend? Links with info would be great!
This has come up a couple of times before -- if you do a quick forum search you might hit upon some other recommendations.
Personally, for bench PSU's I start with Circuit Specialists, Marlin P Jones, and Electronix Express.

Check out the supplies at www.mpja.com, maybe get a few of these

and a higher current model

I just received this Triple Output Mastech the other day:
This is a common model that seems to be OEM'd by several different companies. So don't be surprised if you see a similar one with a different manufacturer name. 2 adjustable, 1 fixed output. On adjustable both current and voltage can be limited.
What I do like:
- Adjustable Current
- Amp/Volt meters on both adjustable outputs
- Parallel / Series Connects
- Relatively clean output (still haven't fully loaded it yet.)
What I don't like about it:
- No individual on/off control. All on or All off.
- Can't set current limit until a load is applied
- Can't set voltage unless output is powered.
For $200 my dislikes are pretty minor. So far, I'm happy with it.
Funny you should mention that one James. I was just looking at that exact item as well ...
Thanks for the suggestions guys!
