Best Position Sensor?

I'm the head of data acquisition for my collegiate SAE Baja racing team and am looking into upgrading from our BNO05 9DOF position sensors. Budget isn't too much of a constraint here (I don't know if we can afford something in the ks but something in the hundreds of dollars is definitely feasible), I just need the best sensor one can get. It'd be especially nice if the sensor had data ready interrupt functionality so I don't need to oversample it, but the data quality is the most important aspect.

The BNO055 is a outdated 3D orientation sensor, and not very accurate.

Modern consumer grade 9DOF sensors are considerably better, but for highest accuracy at correspondingly higher cost, consider commercial IMU sensors used in aircraft.

Interesting...I hadn't thought about looking at aircraft. Do you have any suggestions for individual skus?

Price depends on stability and precision, and a wide range is available for aircraft. Do your research.

Something like this?
I think they support SAE projects.

Crickets?

As a note Anze Suspension is very pro SAE and helps out teams.
He also looks for people who want careers in motorsports.

One of my cohorts runs a team in the BaHa event. My suggestion is to use separate g-force roll and pitch sensors and gyroscope or any other data strain you want. It does take up real estate but if one component fails you can get other data.
One hint use good connectors like Deutche motorsport ones.

Have you run into Dr Dave Redzus?

Sorry! Had to do a lot of driving yesterday and didn't get the chance to check up on this. I'm afraid I haven't gotten a chance to meet Dr. Dave Redzus. Thanks for the suggestions tho! I'll def look into that Motec sensor

Keep us posted.
Good Luck
