I'm building a project which will have an alphabetic keyboard based on Cherry MX switches. I'm using an Arduino Mega and was planning to connect each of the 26 switches to an Arduino input. Will 28ga twisted pair be adequate to prevent crosstalk? Are there better ways of doing this?
It's normal to arrange the switches in a keyboard as a matrix. That way, far fewer Arduino pins are needed and a smaller Arduino could be used.
Will this keyboard be used as a pc keyboard? If so, an Arduino Pro Micro would be suitable. It can emulate a usb keyboard.
I don't think crosstalk would be an issue with this type of circuit, so the type of wire does not matter.
Thanks... It looks like a switch matrix is the best configuration. For this project, there would be no benefit to using a smaller Arduino.
Walmart sells Logitech PS2 keyboard and mouse for $12.99.
Arduino Playground has tutorials for Arduino to run either one.
