Blink program / Arduino not working

I just got a new Arduino, connected it with the A-B USB cable to my mac, and then selected the correct port and board. I wanted to try out blink, just to see everything was working, before I got into a more advanced project.

The compiling worked, but open hitting verify, the following error messages arose below. I have been googling how to address these, but to no avail. Was hoping I could get some guidance here:

This report would have more information with
"Show verbose output during compilation"
option enabled in File -> Preferences.

Is your arduino a Mega ?

Can you share a screen grab of the port settings in the arduino IDE? do you see Mega written next to this entry?

you should see something like this

Hi,
In the IDE, select Tools and select "Get Board Info".
See what comes back.
