In truth I don't really know if the sensor is a reed or hall effect what I do know is someone ordered a big ol' bag of about 100 of them long before i got here.
Lucky you! (Seriously!) Use them I say! A reed switch has only two terminals (with very few exceptions); a Hall Effect sensor is an active device with three terminals, so I think you already know what the one you have is.
