Bluetooth - Parts / Board Selection

I am thinking about getting one of these to control a small Arduino robot - Processor is a UNO

8BitDo Lite Bluetooth Gamepad - Yellow

But when I look here I get very confused as to what to use, I want a Bluetooth receiver to mount on my robot to be able to take over control in case it goes wandering

Any suggestions? I did see something on Adafruit that looks like it would work

I would prefer to stay off Ebay and out of China and use a US company such as Sparkfun or Adafruit

Thanks for any help or tips

The first thing you need to do is check whether the controller is Bluetooth or Bluetooth4 (BLE)

@Nick_Pyner -thanks for the tip - did not know there was a difference

I don't want to be alarmist, but you do need to check. The controller is likely to be plain-vanilla anyway, and some modules for Arduino do both.

You are not being an alarmist at all -

the controller seems to be regular Bluetooth and the module that looked easy to use at Adafruit is LE. Also the "instructions" at Sparkfun are useless for development - just says to charge the controller - nothing about the signals or commands - sort of standard for Sparkfun

Might also look for RC controller something that has plain digital outputs

thanks
