Bluetooth RBG controller resets when bluetooth is out of range

I built a RGB led strip controller around Android Control's Android App that communicates via bluetooth. Everything works well but as I stated in the subject line, if you leave the area, the effect will revert back to a solid color or no color at all and sometimes has a hard time reconnecting to bluetooth.

Is there a way to make the arduino just cycle in a loop whatever the last effect at the time of bluetooth dropout?
Is there a way to make the pairing more simple/reliable.
