Bluetooth RN-42 accepting commands over serial but not responding

My Bluetooth silver mate RN-42 chip acts weird and I haven't been able to fix it. I accepts all serial commands, for example, it starts blinking fast when I send $$$ and I can call other commands or quit command mode (---) and it returns to slow blinking. That shows that it's getting the commands I'm sending.

However, it doesn't respond. Anyone have an idea why? I'm getting zero stuff back from the Bluetooth over serial. (When I hook up another BT silver mate, it works without a problem.) What could be damaged here? Or is there a silent no-answer mode? I couldn't find anything in the datasheet.

Thank you.

Check your module like explained here -> http://www.circuitsathome.com/diy-2/testing-rn-42-bluetooth-module-using-android-phone For the terminal part you can use a PC instead of Android.

Oh, I forgot to mention.

The BT Silver Mate RN-42 is connected to my Arduino UNO. So the serial connection is through the Arduino, not the BT part.
