Boards/Equipment for an Internet of things network

Hi,

I am needing to setup an Internet of things network in the Networks lab at my university. I am not exactly sure what would be the best boards and other supporting equipment to purchase for this project. So below is what I believe to be a minimal list of the requirements for the network.

  1. I would like to use three different boards. One with an 8-bit CPU, one with a 16-bit CPU, and a third with a 32-bit CPU.
  2. Each board needs to be wifi equipped or able to expand it for wifi.
  3. I need to be able to install a UDP socket with DTLS.
  4. I will be running linux (I don't know if this makes any difference).

If anyone has any recommendations for three boards and supporting equipment that would meet the requirements above, please let me know.

I have no idea what 'Internet of things network' means to you, but if you're planning to run DTLS on an Arduino I think that might turn out to be a show stopper.
