boards not made in italy

I want to buy a arduino equivalent board but I was disappointed by the "made in italy" comment at the bottom of the buy page. I find it totally unnecessary and with xenophobic overtones (why not just stick to electronics?!). so, is it possible to buy one not made in italy? I really don't mind paying more.

Who's the xenophobe now? I think you missed the point of Massimo's comment.

There's no need to make an effort to avoid purchases from more industrialized nations. I look for the cheapest or best stuff and make my decision based on that independent of country, but many prefer to buy products with an ethical element (fair trade chocolate, etc).

I certainly don't look for products with the thought "Someone had better SUFFER to make this for me!"

What does it matter where its made?

Most electronic items you buy where made in china. Heck most of what you buy is made somewhere other then where you live.

This is an open source platform so you could always take the schematic and build it yourself.

Other arduino based options:
Bare bones kit

Boarduino clone

Hardcopy ATMega328 kit

Way to make a first impression... refusing to support the case

Was this a joke? An experiment? ::slight_smile:

Ya, I'm kinda at a loss here too. Why is it a problem they are made in Italy? Mind you I do not follow many politics, so this may be a dumb question.

I think the little stamp on the bottom is cool :). And I'm digging the raised Italian flag sticker in the corner of my Duemilanove ;D!

yes, i thought the made in italy thing was fun.

Honestly now, what do you have against Italy?

If you're that worried by Arduinos made in Italy, go look on ebay, you'll almost certainly find "Arduinos" that aren't made in Italy. They are fakes, but the only thing they are ripping off is the name. I've bought one, it works as well as a real one, but I've also bought real Made in Italy ones.

I'd enjoy the oppurtunity to buy something that isn't made in a third world sweat shop whilst its still around. I'm no xenophobe but the bit at the bottom of the buy page is not in the slightest xenophobic, I read it as justification for buying a real one, paying the higher price, and helping support the great work that goes into this product.

You're eating into their profit by using this board, advertising free board hosting doesn't come cheap, and as far as I'm aware the manufacturing of real Arduinos is one of their few sources of income to pay for it. Long live "Made in Italy".

This is why I prefer to make my own boards, last thing you want is a duemilanove riding a Vespa round your work shop, drinking all your coffee, pinching your bum and telling you how bad you are at cooking compared to it mother! ::slight_smile:

You gotta be kidding me!

I know the Italians are just cooler than the rest of us... but you think the logo on the board is like rubbing our noses in their "coolness"?

;D

Well when they put an Arduino into a Ferrari then maybe I'll go out of my way to buy the italian model.

Lefty

I find it totally unnecessary and with xenophobic overtones (why not just stick to electronics?!)

They are sticking with electronics, they are just saying please buy an original board from us and not a clone.

so, is it possible to buy one not made in italy

Not that is called an Arduino, plenty of rip off arduino - "like / identical" products exist so go an buy one of those.

All it was, was a request, contrast that with Coke who go around the world trying to crush anyone else who tries to make a cola.
