Boosting speaker volume for a beginner

Hi All-

My friend has a voice changer toy with a pretty weak speaker, and he's looking to boost the volume. Is there a way to do this electronically through more power or changing resistance, or would the best bet be to install a larger speaker? And, if I do install a larger speaker, how do I know how much power to use for both the board and the speaker? Sorry for the question, but this is my first foray into audio and electronics.
