bread board selection for bike roller racing

Im looking to create something like this, http://wiki.opensprints.org/index.php?title=Main_Page, but I can`t afford the prices they're quoting for pre-assembled or compiled parts. Im wondering if I can use a blank breadboard instead of a integrated circuit board, I don't plan on making LED function that they have set up. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could make this work? I'm thinking of simplifying and using one micro controller connected only to the hall effect sensors.

Thanks

Now that you've made your first post, you can post links. Now would be a good time to exercise that new capability.

Yes you can use a blank prototype board instead of a printed circuit board. You can get hall effect sensors quite cheaply from most component suppliers. see this thread:- http://www.arduino.cc/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1241072688
