Broken Yun overvoltage ... repair tips

Did not read the description properly and didn't realize Vin was 5v only and unregulated! ( why is this connected to Vin? I would have left it unconnected)

As it is repair or throw it in the bin (or use as a leonardo! ) I thought I might as well have a look at repairing it. Looking at the schematic there is a lot attached to 5V!

It seems that the AT32u4 is still working so I guess I should try checking the power to the regulators first?

is it likely that the MIPS CPU is fine? if a regulator is overvolted does it blow open circuit or does it just pass the higher voltage? I powered it by a bench PSU and it shorted (showing high current), suggesting some kind of protection?

Impossible to say for sure without actually inspecting it, but most likely you have joined a growing list of experiential learners that have let the magic smoke out of their Yun.

oh no I have definitely broken it , just seeing if anyone has tried a repair.

Hi ... since your problem description matches mine pretty close I wanted to ask if there was anything you figured out to get your YUN working again? true ... it's been a while but since I do have killed yun I thought I just ask.
Mine got fried by soldering the wrong POE module which give it a nice 12V ... :frowning:
so when powering it looks as well as something had short-circuited
As a first shot I looked at the RT8010-33GQW (on page 5 of schematics) thought maybe it helps to remove but symptoms still same ..
