I'm pretty sure the resistors shouldn't be in line with the pots, but connected to the led's.

The comments don't mention it, but there should be resistors in series with the LEDs.
The comment about 220Ohms resistors in series with the pots (presumably the wipers) does look a bit odd. There's no problem with a pot of, say, 10k Ohms wired from 5V to ground (the track) and feeding the Arduino's analog input pin (the wiper).
Does anyone have a proper circuit diagram for this Sketch?
