Build a drone

Hey! As a school project I am going to build a small drone. I do not have much time so the only function I want it to have is to be able to hover. I have no experience building drones before so I would need some help figuring out what components I need to buy and other useful advice.

Welcome.

I found this as the first link from a Google search on 'Build a Drone'

Perhaps its not a project for someone who has no experience and does not have much time .....................

Thank you! By "I do not have much time" I meant that I need to limit myself not to work night and day, but of course I have time to read and learn!

I hope the link provided by @srnet gives you an idea of the scale of what you are getting into in terms of design, mechanical construction, electronics and programming.

You say you don't have experience of building drones, do you have experience in the areas above?

Hello,

Starting create small drone link. Hopefully can help :slight_smile:

Thanks for the links! @ardly I have been working with arduino for a bit and have built simple cars and stuff like that.

My plan is to 3D print the frame and i think i Will figure that out. The other thing i need (except for the basis stuff like batteri and so) is ESCs, motors, and some kind of Arduino board. I guess i would also need som kind of gyro for the balance.

This is actually the start of the hard part of your project.
Have you read up about PID?

I do not know what time frame you are on, but you might want to start preparing yourself for a change in scope.
If there is no way that your drone will hover by your deadline, all is not lost.
Change your project to be a discover of the difficulty of what appears to be a simple task - hovering.
You can report on how the assumed scope - making 4 propellors turn - is wildly off the mark. Then document the areas that would need to be tackled - PID

I am not saying that you will fail. I hope you are successful and you are in a good place to get help. You should give us more info on your deadline. As well as a guess of shipping times if you cannot buy all the pieces locally.

I have read about PID, and it sounds very difficult. Maybe I should create another product instead, since i am still very early in the project?

Only you know if you have theexperience and skills to pull it off.
Itis not an easy task one of the links you were given states;

Let me remind you that building a drone is something that takes practice, especially if you’re a beginner. If you’re looking to “get in the air” quickly, then perhaps it’s best to purchase an RTF (Ready-to-Fly) model and save this DIY project for a more convenient time. When I built my first RC drone back in 2014, it took me a few tries to get it right, but when I finally got my drone in the air, it was an amazing feeling.

Here is an early helicopter attempt at hovering;
