Building a new Prototype

Hello Everyone!

I am brand new to the Forums, so I want to start off by saying Hi to everyone hehe.

Basically I am a long time Inventor and Tinker/Hacker, I have always had a Inventive mind and always coming up with different ideas and projects. But even though I have been a long time tinkerer, I am fairly newb when it comes to the "Electronics" part of projects, but I am trying to learn as much as I can but still newb non the less lol.

I am currently working on a new Invention's Prototype and the idea is pretty decked out with all kinds of different technologies that I have NO idea how to put together or code, so I am really looking for either someone who can heavily help me with the project with little details about the project. OR, probably a option a bit better for the both of us, is I can bring you on as a ACTUAL "Partner" on the project but if you wanted to go with this option I would be defiantly go though all the legal mumbo jumbo, like NDA's and going though all the processes to add you to the companies "partners" and giving you on a set % of the company (or at least a % of this project within the company) depending if this is the only project you would like to work with me on. My company is called Nuideeyuz LLC, and I plan on working on several of my ideas over time, which I think several I will be able to run successful Kickstarter Campaigns with. These are all things we can discuss if your wanting to move forward with me.

So bottom line is, I am a person that comes up with good idea's, I am good with my hands, I went to College for Graphic Design and Graphic Communications and I also went to College for Small Business and Entrepreneurship. I can handle the Business, I can handle the Kickstarter Campaigns, I can handle a lot of the Marketing, I am also hoping to start classes soon at Cornell University for Product Design and also take classes for Autodesk Fusion 360 so I can learn CAD so I can handle a lot of the final product design (I will obviously need help with that part of it at the moment tho). The main parts I need help with is the Electronics and Coding part of the Prototype, so if this is something your interested in then shoot me a message here or email me at Rich@Nuideeyuz.com and we can talk more about the project and the things that would actually need to be taken care of with it, I basically need/want someone proficient in the whole Hacking/Electronics & Coding field.

I am super excited about this project and about future projects that move Nuideeyuz LLC into the future! Thank you for you time.

I've been working with Design and Special Effects recently. I sent you a PM to discuss how I think I can help.

And all you need is for someone to actually do the work of making this idea of yours happen, of turning your concept art into a thing.

You a boss looking for an employee. Get a loan from a VC, a bank, or kickstarter, then hire people. You'll have to convince your creditors that there's a market for this product of yours, and that you have at least half a chance of being able to deliver it.

Personally, I wouldn't partner with you - I'd want to be paid and I'd insist on money up-front or one month in arrears because this:

the idea is pretty decked out with all kinds of different technologies that I have NO idea how to put together

It's, well it's not a real good start, is it?

Paul,
I think that's a little harsh. Sure there are many people out there who are looking for a sucker to "do it for a percentage of the profits." However, I've worked also with many business people who are experts in their field but know nothing about technology. Some of those people come online looking for technical help.

If someone has an idea they think is profitable and want to implement it and they understand that building stuff costs money, it's perfectly rational for them to look an expert to build it for them. I've been doing this for years and it can be a lot of fun to work with people like this.

I think the focus of his comment is (more or less) abotu the payment.

% of a company means... what exactly? How does one pay their bills with this 'percentage'?

It sorta reads like this:

"I have a great idea, is very technical in nature, and I need someone to do it for/with me. Once complete, I hope it make money and we'll split it......somehow."

Usually when 'one comes looking for technical help'... they either:

  • are will pay or hire someone
  • or looking for help to LEARN themselves..

I agree with Paul regarding payment. The OP is apparently in need of technical expertise to prototype a likely profitable product. Most experts are inclined to lend their hands as consultants, i.e. payment upfront with a contract and then regularly on invoice. There is a lot of work to even get one person on board, both sides. There is communication, reading background information, finding proper hardware etc. then more communication both with clients and hardware manufacturers' engineers. I've been involved in such work for the past decade. If I don't know a person, regardless how good his idea may sound, I won't partner with him. Recently our university has indicated that no one should use the language "the university has established partnership with a local business/community etc." because that indicates shared responsibility (in case bad things happen). You don't want to get into some responsibility whatsoever. You're just the plumber. Can't get involved in domestic dispute of the house you service the toilet.

I recommend the OP to have enough upfront cash to hire someone instead of enticing someone to work for free and get paid later. You have a business so there should be some money to invest on new ideas. If you want to protect your ideas, go ahead with NDA. Some of us will understand. I also recommend to find someone that has a regular job. It proves some stability if not credibility. Don't hire college students for long-term work. They can't handle it.
