I am building a project. It is like this i have a motor attached to a dive belt that moves a piece of wood up and down 5-10in. there are some kind of sensors that you interact with that you make the motor moves with makes the piece of wood move. Please help me do this thanks. I have a arduino atemaga 328

You asked about sensors, with the word "building" in the title, in the hardware section of the form.
I assumed you wanted some pointers to the sort of sensors you might want.
Sensors don't control the motors, they provide the controller with information.
You haven't told use whether these are small DC motors, steppers, or locomotive traction motors (Oh!, I hope not).

Start making it, and then ask when you run into problems. The best way to do it, is to start making something yourself, takes longer time, and is more difficult than just doing a copy-paste, but instead you will know what is going on, and be able to debug and make changes to it later.

How? The arduino can't handle that much itself. You need something between the motor and power supply, and then the arduino to control that.
